Main effect of forskolin is to activate enzyme adenylate cyclase(involved in cellular functions) and to increase within cell concentration of a chemical named cyclic AMP(adenosine monophosphate). This chemical cyclic AMP is a messenger carrying signals from one cell to another cell. It is further believed that this mechanism of forskolin to activate adenylate cyclase and increasing cyclic AMP may explain forskolin’s effects as vasodilator(blood vessel dilator)  , bronchodilator(bronchi dilator)  , inotropic agent(the one that modifies the force of muscle contraction)  and antiplatelet agent  .

From 2006, 19 patients with tumor originating from the tonsillar fossa and/or soft palate (15), base of tongue (1), and nasopharynx (3) were randomized to receive HBOT or not.
